Mary Ann Franks

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Franks, age 82, on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Born on June 7, 1942, in Caneyville, she was the cherished daughter of the late Latney Harold and Effie Madine Swift Smith. Mary Ann was a beloved wife to her husband Charles B. Franks, sharing 60 wonderful years together filled with love and laughter.

Mary Ann was an integral part of the Small's Grove Church community, where her warm spirit and vibrant presence made everyone feel welcome. She had a knack for bringing people together, often arriving early to chat with friends before services. Whether she was tending to her beautiful flowers, cooking for family and friends, or enjoying a friendly game of cards, she spread joy wherever she went. Puzzles were a favorite pastime, reflecting her sharp mind and playful spirit.

Mary Ann leaves behind her loving husband, Charles, two sons, Kevin W. Franks (Tiffney) and Keith W. Franks (Ronda), along with four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who will carry forward her legacy of kindness. She also leaves her brother, Jerry Smith, and sisters Margie Raymer, Carolyn Knuckles, Marsha Duvall, and Ronda Sipes, who will miss her dearly.

Aside from her parents, Latney and Madine Smith, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Kent W. Franks, along with four brothers—Herschel, Charles, Amos J., and Raymond Smith—and one sister, Sandra Smith.

In honoring her wishes, a cremation will take place, with a burial to be held at Layman Memorial Gardens at a later date. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Mary Ann’s life, sharing cherished memories and honoring the love she brought into their lives at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Small's Grove Church in Caneyville.
