Evelena Pruitt

Evelena Ray Pruitt, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away Thursday, September 16th, 2021 at age 89 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. She was born on December 27th, 1931 in Caneyville, Kentucky, the daughter of Oliver and Myrtle Basham of Caneyville. Evelena was raised with her devoted, baby sister Minnie "Carolyn" Young in humble surroundings. Starting at age 13, She worked a variety of jobs in Caneyville, helping her family and others however she could through lean times. Fortuitously her hard work paid off, landing her a position as bank teller at the Bank of Caneyville, where she worked 50+ years in a variety of roles, touching many many lives throughout the years. Along the way Evelena married Wilbur "Wib" Pruitt on December 13th 1963, and they lived together until his death in 1977. Evelena was well known and respected in the Caneyville community.. She was kind and generous to family and friends, as well as self-reliant. In the last few months, Evelena gracefully accepted help from those who loved her, though it was a role-reversal for her. Hospice assisted and cared for Evelena with compassion and grace. Evelena is survived by her nephew Joel Young, great nephew Nick Young, great niece Tiffany Meehan as well as 7 great nephews and nieces. She will be missed. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday (Sept 25th) at the Caneyville Memorial Chapel. She will be laid to rest in the New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Caneyville Memorial Chapel is both honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mrs. Pruitt.
